Twilight Cleans Up At Razzies

In an announcement that is sure to send millions of teenage (and some slightly older/younger) fangirls into a blind fury, hit fantasy series Twilight’s movie run ended last year and has been recognised in an awards show – just not the one that you would want your favourite film to be at.

razzie_awardEvery year since 1981, the day before the event celebrating the best in cinema for the previous 12 months, a separate ceremony commemorates the worst, with the annual Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the ‘Razzies’.

The event is run by the website Rotten Tomatoes, renowned for its ability to let users rate how much you should stay away from a film, with the added benefit of helping to vote for the ‘prestigious’ awards on show.

This year, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 from Summit Entertainment served as the 5th and final installment to The Twilight Saga series, but did not come anywhere near an award or nomination at at the Oscars, instead having to be content with 7 of the 10 Razzies on offer (headlined by the ‘Worst Picture’ award), and 11 nominations (being on the ballot for every single category, including one (‘Worst Screen Couple’) in which they were responsible for two entries). A satisfying conclusion to the series for many that weren’t Twilight fans…

For the name of a film to just reach this ceremony, though, they are all losers, with every single one of the nominations (which aside from Twilight feature strongly on Razzie regulars Adam Sandler and Tyler Perry), and ‘winners’ able to be found below:

While it is clear that the voting jury of the Razzies (a 650-strong panel of journalists, professionals, and cinema fans) appreciated the conclusion to Twilight in a different way to many of its ‘Twihard’ fans, it is now officially down in the record books that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 must be one of the worst-rated blockbusters of all time, although the real loser of this ceremony is the noble fruit of raspberries. Though it is thoroughly justified to have a show that looks at the worst of the big-money movie industry, what did this poor and tasty snack ever do to deserve their name being associated with such awful film-making?
